The media would have us believe that the world is going to hell in a hand-basket but in fact there is no better time to live.  Despite terrible things happening, we are feeding the planet, living longer, child mortality is down, death at childbirth is down...  Rather than dissolving in despair, apply the tools that led to the successes to the problems at hand
