Amita Sen Gupta’s work engages with object and emotion, and the idea that matter holds memory. Objects, such as worn discarded shoes, vacant and condemned buildings and the contemplative landscape which one has cherished, becomes a memory, a loss in our fleeting lives. Using thin layers of oil, washes and dry brush, these paintings have a quietness and a breathing space to them.
Amita has been interviewed on CBC radio about her art and being an artist growing up in the Parkdale neighbourhood. She has been an art consult at the Art Rental and Sales Gallery at AGO. Amita has been part of a couple of art collectives in Toronto and was a founding member of the artist run gallery, Propeller.
Her paintings have been exhibited in many group shows, and at various galleries, cultural centres and corporations throughout Toronto, including VL Custom Gallery, Gladstone Hotel, Art Rental + Sales Gallery – AGO, and Mercedes Benz Financial.
